How and where do I apply for the state exam? Applications for the State test are only available from Department of Banking and Finance (850) 410-9895 (or www.dbf.state.fl.us). All applications must include a complete set of fingerprints taken by an authorized law enforcement officer. The applicant must have signed and dated the application within 30 days of the date that the application is received by the Department. Applications must be received in Tallahassee on or before the 15th day of the month preceding the month for which the applicant wishes to be scheduled for examination. Back to Top
What is the cost to apply for the state exam? The cost is $223: broken down as $200 for a non-refundable application fee and $23 for a background check.

What is the cost to retake the state exam if I do not pass the first time? There is no charge, provided you pass the exam within the 90-day period stamped on the examination form. Typically, this means you could have two attempts within the 90-day period. If you do not take or pass the state exam within this 90-day period, a new application must be submitted with another $223.00.

When and where is the state exam given? The exam is given in various locations throughout the State including St. Petersburg, Orlando, Ft. Lauderdale, Vero Beach and Tallahassee. Typically the test is held on the 4th Tuesday of the month.

How often do I need to renew my license? Your license must be renewed every two years. The renewal period begins September 1 of odd- numbered years.
